Where Richmond Began
Perched above the city with sweeping views of the James River, Church Hill is Richmond’s oldest neighborhood—and arguably one of its most revitalized. With cobblestone streets, original 19th-century rowhouses, and a thriving food scene, it strikes the perfect balance of historic charm and modern energy. I’ve walked nearly every block of Church Hill with clients who fall in love with its soul, its skyline, and its strong sense of place.
🏛️ A Little History
Church Hill dates back to 1737, making it the birthplace of Richmond. It’s home to St. John’s Church, where Patrick Henry gave his famous “Give me liberty or give me death” speech. The neighborhood survived the Civil War, endured decline, and has seen a major renaissance over the last two decades. Today, restored Federal, Greek Revival, and Italianate homes stand alongside sleek new townhomes and apartments, all just minutes from downtown.
